Sexual diseases and disorders that affect men.

What is urology?

Urology is the specialty of medicine that focuses on physical and psychological sexual problems, specifically diseases of the urinary tract and reproductive system, in both men and women.

What is a urologist?

Some urologists treat in a general way all diseases related to the urinary tract. Others specialize in a particular type of urology, such as male urology. More precisely, in the sexual problems that affect men, such as urinary infections, infertility, erectile dysfunction, and other problems that affect a man's sexuality, such as penis size.

A urologist is the specialist doctor to whom men or women who have specific urinary or sexual problems, and who need more specialized treatment or advice than can be given by their regular doctor, are sent by their regular doctor to solve their problem.

Urologists can prescribe remedies and offer what is called "behavioral training". For example, they can help manage some sexual problems with the help of counseling and natural procedures to solve some problems that may have psychological origin rather than physical.

Although they may offer psychological counseling in more common cases, they are not considered to be sexual or behavioral psychologists, as this type of medicine requires another type of professional.

Urologists also perform a range of procedures that can go from simple consultations to elaborate tests and even surgeries. Some work in their own consulting office, but most work in general or specialized hospitals in this category.
