What is Psychology?
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior. Psychologists are generally involved in the study and understanding of mental processes and brain functions that lead to certain types of behaviors. The psychology field is considered to have strong connections to the medical, social, and educational sciences.
What is a psychologist?
A psychologist is a mental health professional who helps people learn healthy ways to deal with mental health issues. They can help people living with specific conditions, such as depression or anxiety, or those who are going through a difficult time in life, such as grieving the loss of a loved one.
Since psychologists perform a wide variety of tasks, work settings can vary dramatically. Some psychologists work in hospitals, health clinics, mental health institutions, or psychiatric institutions. Other psychologists work in academic or research settings, often conducting psychological research to help understand and treat certain mental behaviors.
What is a sleep specialist?
A sleep specialist is a doctor who diagnoses and treats sleep disorders in people who for whatever psychological reason are unable to get adequate sleep.
These sleep doctors, sometimes called somnologists because they study the scientific side of sleep, come from a wide variety of medical specialties, mainly from psychology, but they all have training in solving sleep disorders.
Sleep specialists work in many different places. Some have their own private consulting office. Others work in general hospitals, psychiatric hospitals or sleep clinics.
